Song: All The Way Live
Artist: LOOPRAT
Album (Year): How Live? (2016)
Notable Lyric: "If you didn't call it all then rewind it, here's permission"

If you're looking for a song that will get you bobbing your head then look no further. LOOPRAT are a type of "band" that I've never come across before - with their mix of Rap and Jazz to merge with sounds that you just wouldn’t expect to go together so seamlessly!
This song is from 2016 and how their contagious vibe hasn’t exploded onto the larger scene is beyond me. I stumbled across this song last year on a playlist that was just in the background but as soon as I heard the drop with the trumpet at 0:21 my attention was gripped.
Is it not just a pleasant change to listen to rappers who can actually form coherent sentences? If anything it’s quite humbling to listen to a song where you don’t process the lyrics immediately. These MCs are already on a different lyrical level that you can’t really passively listen to these songs. Just focusing that tiny bit more to pick up the poetry of their words makes you appreciate the effort that goes into a verse, let alone a single song. Also, let’s not just gloss over the fact that although the beat remains rather constant, each of the MCs brings their own flow to the track.
It reminds me of Lupe Fiasco’s Dumb It Down – as song about how in order to sell more records and resonate with more people you need to simplify your lyrics. With the volume of music that is out there people don’t always have the time to break down the lyrics of a song. I think that’s a shame as it puts boundaries on how you choose to express yourself which isn’t what art is about at all.
The fact that in their video they’re still handing out flyers for their shows and doing the leg work to generate their attention is humbling. These are the kinds of artists I’m looking to involve in my Green Banana segment. Getting to understand a bit more about how they got started, what their message is, and who their fans are would be amazing!
Also that instrumental for the last minute of the song though! I don’t know how much of that was planned and how much was just the band freestyling off each other but it’s brilliant nonetheless.
