Song: 5:55
Artist: Sylvan LaCue
Album (Year): Apologies In Advance (2018)
Notable Lyric: " I've been dealin' with some problems by myself in silence // I ain't always at my best even when I'm smillin' "

It's always great when you get recommended a song to listen to. My brother, Stefan, visited me a few weeks ago and introduced me to Sylvan LaCue. This was the first song he showed me and I've been hooked ever since!
The lyrics of this song are powerful and resonate with me at this moment. What I take from the song is being okay with not being okay however, ultimately you are in control of how you respond to what is going on in your life. Your attitude and will-power to persevere is what will get you through.
"I might slip up on my ass, but I never fold up // I might pull up late to class, but I always show up"
Maintaining a positive attitude during times of struggle is one of the most difficult things to do. Negative and self-destructing thoughts that fester in your mind will bring you down and make it difficult get out of that mental slump.
This song speaks about being aware of how you're feeling and actively working towards the change you want to see in yourself. It takes a lot to move out of that mindset and it's not something that happens in a day. The habits and thoughts we entertain will become who we are; be it positive or negative.
I'm doing my best to summarise such a complex song in a few sentences but don't feel I that will do it justice. Therefore I'd highly recommend taking 5 minutes to read how Sylvan LaCue himself has explained some of the lines in the song that you may not have initially understood. Follow the link below:
